New Neiman’s GM is ready for H-town

- Joy Sewing

Stephen Brunelle has arrived at Neiman Marcus Galleria at the perfect time. The holiday retail sales are expected to top last year’s by more than 4 percent, according to the National Retail Federation. And the bustle of holiday shoppers makes the new vice president and general manager a happy guy. Brunelle, 55, who has worked for Neiman Marcus for 19 years, replaces Bob Devlin, who retired in July after 38 years with the company. His passion for the retail business was nurtured early. He was raised in the Washington, D.C., area in a family that owned retail stores. He joined Neiman Marcus after graduating from the University of Miami with a degree in business. Before taking over Neiman Marcus Galleria, Brunelle was head of the Coral Gables store in the Miami area and had just completed a store renovation. “Houston is like Miami,” he said. “Both cities have a very stylish and active community.” He expects to add a “refresh” to the Galleria store, including an upgrade for the fitting rooms and floors. A more extensive renovation is in the works. Brunelle shares some of his style favorites: Men’s designer: “Once you’ve had a Tom Ford suit, it’s hard to go back.” Women’s designer: “Chanel is consistently great season after season.” Must-have denim: Dolce & Gabbana jeans Can’t go without: Black-suede Lanvin sneakers Need to purge: A bluish-purple Dolce & Gabbana shirt that fit 10 years ago. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t fit now.” Best part of the job: “I love being out and meeting clients. If you’re in the store, please say hi.”
