Kathryn Alice Keckley née Brown, age 69, passed away on Thursday, the 8th of November 2018. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Luther Willis Brown and Sophia Christine Hoffman, Kathy grew up in South Carolina and graduated from Lower Richland High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Winthrop College.

She taught English, until she met a young man fresh out of the Navy who needed a first mate on his houseboat. Kathy decided to go on this adventure ending up in Houston and fell in love with the Captain, William Arthur Keckley. They married in 1972 and later had a child, William Clay.

From an early age, Kathy was a volleyball and bridge devotee. Later in life she went on to become involved in The Blue Bird Circle, as shop chairman for numerous years and serving as president in 2007, making lifelong friends along the way. She has been involved in many other organizati­ons and civic organizati­ons, chief among these was the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Houston. She enjoyed getting away from the city and loved to relax seaside in Galveston feeling the gulf breeze.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Joseph Clarence Jay. Kathy leaves behind her husband, Bill; son, Will; two grandchild­ren, Greta and Cajetan; and sister, Vicki Wright.

The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 19th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, the family requests that memorial contributi­ons be directed toward The Blue Bird Circle, 615 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77006.
