MARGARET C. SHEARER

1916-2018

-

June 6, 1916 November 9, 2018 Margaret was born to Carl and Anna (Koszewski) Bariger on a farm in South Bend, Indiana, the first of six children. All are now deceased. Life was hard in those days, and everyone was expected to contribute to the family’s well-being. Throughout her life Margaret has been a hard worker with a smile and an exuberance that was contagious to others. Her generosity of spirit and kindness of heart will be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of being touched and influenced by her life.

Margaret married Harvey Shearer in 1937 and began her family shortly after with identical twin daughters, who survive: Joan King of Washington, DC, and June Helmer (husband Ray) of Houston, TX. Later a son was born, Harvey Jr., who died in 1998. Harvey Sr. died in 1990 after having been disabled from a stroke in 1969. Margaret is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, a large, loving extended family and many friends.

Margaret moved from Indiana to Houston in August of 2000 and lived very happily at Clarewood House. She has traveled extensively, enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, sewing and led a busy social life.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 2:00 P.M., followed by an “after-party” at First United Methodist Church - Westchase, 3663 Westcenter Drive in Houston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002. A previous service was held in Elkhart, Indiana, where Margaret lived her first 84 years.
