LOIS VANE BLACK

1940-2018

-

Lois Vane Black passed from this world on 11-10-18 at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert J. and Lillian McQuilkin of Lufkin, Tx, and her son Scott Christopher Black of Houston, Tx. She is survived by her very best friend Hugh Wilburn of Waco, Tx, her daughter Tracey Kirkpatrick and husband Tom from Leaky Tx, her son Troy Christian Black of Houston, Tx her sister Emmie Kubik and her husband Joe from Panama and brother Robert Dan McQuilkin and wife Annie from Huntington, Tx, grandchildren Carson Kirkpatrick, Connor Kirkpatrick and Lillian Kirkpatrick, 2 neices and 3 nephews and a host of friends and neighbors who loved her dearly.

Lois worked as a corporate secretary her entire life until she lost her life savings while working for Enron. She did not let this get her down. Instead she fulfilled her lifelong dream of creating elaborate and beautiful birthday parties for little girls. Her business was called “Tea Parties To Go”. Although this was a very labor intensive job, it is what she loved to do and she did with great enthusiasm. Her business was written up in AARP magazine and US magazine and also in the Houston Chronicle. Making others feel special was her specialty! Lois was known for her creative talents which included among other things, decorating, cooking, sewing and making beautiful cakes. She loved giving parties and using all her beautiful china and silver, crystal, linen napkins and gorgeous centerpieces. She had a servants heart and was willing to help anyone in need.

Lois was a member of Unity Church in Houston for many years and sang in the choir there which gave her great joy. She was always grateful for the smallest things in life and she was an inspiration to all who knew her. I think her message to us would be “It’s better to be kind than to be right”.

The celebration of her life “Aunt Sisty’s Farewell Tea Party To Go” will be held at The Country Place Carriage House located at 3323 Flower Field Lane, Pearland, Texas, Saturday, Dec. 8th at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. There will be food and drinks after the service so bring your appetite.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
