-

Mary Lew Carnahan, age 86, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018. She is survived by her sons and their wives Steve and Kay, Craig and Peggy, and Mark and Stacy, her grandson Chase, and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Marian Hardman, her brother Charles, and her husband George Carnahan.

Our Mom, Mary Lew, was a warm, good-hearted, gracious lady with a beautiful smile. She was always there for us growing up, and she did a wonderful job taking care of three unruly boys who thought they didn’t need any help or guidance. She was the greatest! We always used to tell her that she was the best mother we ever had, and that would put a smile on her face. She was, in fact, the best mother anyone could ever have!

She supported us and cheered us on in all our activities and sporting events growing up; and continued to lovingly support us as adults. As she would say, she was “Mother Hen”, always “checking up on her chicks.”

Mary Lew, our Mother, friend, loved one, was wonderful: … kind, sweet, loving, caring and sensitive. She cared so much for each and every one in her life. We will miss her dearly!

Mary Lew graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1954. She and George raised three sons while traveling the world with Shell Oil company. She was also a dedicated member of P.E.O., a women’s organization that helps provide educational opportunities to female students worldwide, serving as three-time President of the local Chapter, then, as President of the Texas State Board, and finally, serving on the International Board of Trustees in support of the Program for Continuing Education.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 19 at 10am, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Memorials may be made to the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE): Tax deductible checks from individuals should be made payable to the P.E.O. Foundation, and sent to the P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to all her care givers.
