Ogwumike’s big game helps Rice win at Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW — Erica Ogwumike scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Rice to a 68-58 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.

Ogwumike was 6-of-10 shooting from the field and hit all 14 of her free-throw attempts.

Lauren Grisby added 16 points for the Owls (6-2), who fell behind 12-11 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Lady Panthers 18-10 in the second period to take a 29-22 halftime lead. Praririe View A&M outscored Rice 21-13 to lead 43-42 at the end of three quarters.

Artavia Ford led the Lady Panthers (3-3) with 18 points.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 69 TEXAS-RIO GRANDE VALLEY 55

Marquia Turner scored 27 points to help lead the Lady Tigers to victory at Edinburg.

Niya Mitchell added 13 pointsfor Texas Southern (3-5).

OKLAHOMA ST. 77 HOUSTON BAPTIST 44

Vivian Gray scored 23 points, and Mariam Gnanou added 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cowgirls past the Huskies at Stillwater, Okla.

Lauren Calver scored 10 points for Houston Baptist (4-4).

TEXAS A&M 84 CENTRAL ARKANSAS 27

The Aggies held the Sugar Bears to 20.8-percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers en route to a easy victory at College Station.

Texas A&M (6-2) made seven of its first nine shots. The Aggies, who never trailed, led 32-4 early in the second quarter and were up 41-12 at halftime.

Kayla Wells led the Aggies with a game-high 15 points, and Chennedy Carter added 14 points and a season-high seven assists. Ciera Johnson picked up a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

CONNECTICU­T 99 SETON HALL 61

Katie Lou Samuelson had 26 points and 16 rebounds as the top-ranked Huskies routed their former Big East rival Pirates at Hartford, Conn.

It was just the second career double-double for the 6-3 AllAmerica­n, who also had six assists.

Napheesa Collier had 18 points and Crystal Dangerfiel­d scored 16 for Connecticu­t (9-0).

Nicole Jimenez had 23 points for Seton Hall (7-2), which had won three in a row.

NOTRE DAME 72, TOLEDO 56

Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points to help the No. 2 Irish win at Toledo, Ohio., and bounce back from a loss to Connecticu­t last weekend.

Jessica Shepard had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Jackie Young finished with 14 points and 10 boards for Notre Dame (8-1.

Mikaela Boyd scored 15 points for the Blades (6-3), who entered with a four-game win streak.

MARYLAND 87 JAMES MADISON 63

Brianna Fraser had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the seventh-ranked Terrapins to victory at College Park, Md.

Kaila Charles also had 24 points for Maryland (9-0), which never trailed.

NORTH CAROLINA ST. 76 GEORGETOWN 65

Elissa Cunane equaled her career high with 23 points, and DD Rogers had a career-best 20 rebounds, helping the No. 10 Wolfpack win at Washington.

Kiara Leslie added 18 points as North Carolina State improved to 10-0 for the first time since the 1997-98 season.

IOWA 72, IUPUI 58

Megan Gustafson scored 32 points as the 16th-ranked Hawkeyes won at Iowa City, Iowa.

Gustafson became the third player in program history to reach 2,000 career points and the seventh Big Ten player to score 2,000 points and collect 1,000 rebounds.

SOUTH DAKOTA ST. 80, DRAKE 71

Madison Guebert scored 21 points as the Jackrabbit­s made five of six free throws in the final minute to upset the Bulldogs at Brookins, S.D.
