James Thomas Rodrigues passed away peacefully on December 5, 2018 after battling a long illness He was born December 30, 1921 in Nacogdoche­s, Tx to Neeley C. Rodrigues and Monica Susan Lazarine Rodrigues He joined the Army in July of 1940 and served in the European Theater until the end of the war in 1945. He was present at the battle of the Bulge. After the war he became a Master Carpenter. He took pride in the fact that he was asked by his bosses in Houston if he could figure out how to build external ramps on a parking garage in Shreveport, LA. When he did so, they were quite happy and asked him to go to Shreveport to oversee the project. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends in his spare time. In his earlier years he was active in the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Carpenters Union. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Onie Estelle Talley Rodrigues, his parents, 5 brothers: Frank, Floyd, Johnny, Richard and Michael Rodrigues, and one sister: Marie Casey. He is survived by his sons: Jim Rodrigues and wife Stevie, Robert(Rod) Rodrigues and wife Beth, and Ronnie Rodrigues; daughters: Robby Barron and husband Edwin, Donna Harris-Baxter and husband Thomas, and Vickie Taylor and husband Edward, 18 grandchild­ren and 33 great grandchild­ren. Also one sister, Cecelia George and husband Lynn and one sister-in-law, Odessa Rodriguear and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 11, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy Pasadena, TX 77505. The funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 816 Park Dr. La Porte, TX 77571, at 11 a.m. The interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n at www.alzfdn.org or 866-2328484.
