NEW CONSTRUCTION

-

HomeAid Houston and builder captain David Weekley Homes (DWH), are well underway on construction of the first four of eight duplexes that are part of the Next Step Project at the Gracewood campus in the Spring Branch area. Gracewood, a Children at Heart Ministry, offers a home-like environment where family well-being is restored while moms work toward specific, individual goals. The agency can currently serve up to 15 single mothers and their children and with the Next Step Project expansion, Gracewood will be able to serve up to 31 families. These new duplexes will offer housing for mothers who need additional time to complete education or certification programs.

“It has been an exciting journey to watch the construction of these much anticipated duplexes," said Patrick Mayhan, the 2019 president of HomeAid. "Our partnership with David Weekley Homes has been a key factor in making this project happen. Our decade-long relationship with Gracewood is a testament to our shared vision to help families in crisis overcome the odds and return to the community with bright futures."

HomeAid and Gracewood's partnership has resulted in the completion of five homes between two campuses in the Houston area. The 2.5 acres that adjoin the current Gracewood campus will include the eight duplexes, Patti’s Place (a clothing boutique), a furniture warehouse, and a community center with both administrative offices and an activity center. The current administrative office will become a community counseling center.

This will be the sixth project that HomeAid Houston and Gracewood have partnered on to help women and children. “This entire team consisting of staff, builders and vendors display such a tremendous spirit of generosity that encourages families toward a hopeful future,” concluded Mayhan.

Gracewood’s Spring Branch facility, located on Elmview Drive, currently provides three 6,000-plus to 7,000-plus-square-foot homes, each housing five families. The most recently completed home also provides administrative, support services, and counseling offices.

The DWH home construction team is being led by Brian Underwood, Mark Welch and Nancy Reid. Mark Atkins with MASA Studio is the project's architect.

HomeAid Houston is a 501 (c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA).

The agency was established in 2003 to work with Houston homeless care providers to build and renovate shelters that transform lives. By partnering with GHBA builders, remodelers, developers and suppliers, HomeAid is able to effectively multiply the impact of gifts provided by generous donors.

Since 2003, HomeAid Houston has completed 52 projects that added more than $14 million in real estate to Houston’s homeless community. For more information on HomeAid Houston visit www.homeaidhouston.org or call 281-970-8970.
