Loyd Dean Romans born November 24, 1946 in San Angelo, Texas passed away December 28, 2018 after a brief sudden onset illness. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Estala Emmanuel, his brother Bill and wife Jo Romans, his brother-in-law Charlie Jackson and numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. Loyd was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Jackson and parents, Ethel and Leon Romans.

His was a military family living in numerous towns in Texas; Denver, Colorado and Bitburg, Germany. They settled in Austin, Texas when his dad retired from the Air Force and Loyd attended and graduated from McCallum High School in 1966. He joined the Air Force that July as an aircraft mechanic following in his father’s footsteps. In 1968 he was stationed at Bien Hoa AFB in Vietnam where he served for 12 months. After four years of active duty and two in the reserves he returned home to Austin in 1972.

Loyd began his profession­al career as a draftsman for the Texas Highway Department drawing maps of the roads he would end up spending much time driving later in his career. In 1974 he moved to Houston, Texas to work for GeoQuest as a draftsman but eventually found himself in facilities management which became his career. He went on to manage facilities for Enron, Phibro, Basis, Valero, ARC, Computer Associates and retired after ten years at Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas in October 2017. Loyd was a Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) and member of Internatio­nal Facilities Management Associatio­n (IFMA).

Valero moved him and his wife Estala from Houston to San Antonio and ARC moved them to the Dallas area where they lived until his death.

Loyd loved old cars. As a boy he built models, many of cars he or his father owned over the years. He and Estala shared a passion for fly fishing which was the focus of most of their vacations since 1994.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Operation Kindness.
