TEXAS LEGISLATURE BACK IN SESSION
Angleton Republican Dennis Bonnen was unanimously elected as Texas House speaker, replacing longtime San Antonio moderate Joe Straus, who did not run for re-election. Bonnen wooed Texans on both sides of the aisle with a bipartisan approach, pushing school funding as his top priority. The Legislature convened on Tuesday; the session ends on May 27.
