MRS. MARGARITA “MARGARET” MENDEZ UBIAS

1923-2019

Mrs. Margarita “Margaret” Mendez Ubias, age 95, went to be with the Lord peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2019. She was born in Glenham, Texas on October 23, 1923. She was reared in Elgin, Texas and later made her home In Galena Park, Texas.

She was a member of the Guadalupan­as in Elgin, Texas and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church of Galena Park.

Margarita is proceeded in death by her parents, Sabas and Tomasa Mendez; her husband, Jesse Ubias; three sons, Jesse Manuel Ubias, I, Carlos Ubias, and Isabel Rene Ubias; two granddaugh­ters, Angelica and Laura Ubias; four brothers, Ignacio Mendez, Manuel Mendez, Maurilio Mendez, and Jesus Mendez; and two sisters, Esther Selvera-Castillo and Estella Muniz.

She is survived by her loving children, Jesse Ubias and wife Yolanda, Joe Ubias, John Ubias and wife Benita, Phillip Ubias and wife Diane, Robert Ubias and wife Helen, Eddie Ubias and wife Barbara, Pearl and husband Daniel Clark, Emerald and husband Jerry Kornele, Ricky Ubias, Ruby and husband Robert Trevino, and Thomas Ubias; 23 grandchild­ren and 25 great-grandchild­ren.

Serving with grace as Pallbearer­s are Michael Ubias, Marcos Ubias, Randy Cockrell, Sean Ubias, Ryan Ubias, Robin Ubias, David Clark, Stephen Clark, Jason Kornele, Jeremy Kornele, Adam Ubias, Andrew Ubias, Kevin Trevino.

Family and friends gathered at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin on Tuesday, January 22nd from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and recited the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Celebratio­n of Christian Burial Mass was conducted the following day at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Father George presiding. Interment followed at the Elgin Latin Cemetery.
