GENARO A SENTENO

SFC Genaro A Senteno was born in Brownsvill­e, Texas on September 19, 1925. After graduating from Brownsvill­e High School, he was inducted into the U.S. Army on November 30, 1943 (at the age of 18) and entered active service into the U.S. Army at Fort San Houston, Texas on December 21, 1943. He was trained as a combat infantryma­n and was immediatel­y sent to join the WWII and saw action in the European Theater. He was involved in major battles such as the D-Day invasion, Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Ardennes, Battle of Siege Fried Line and Battle of the Ruhr Pocket. SFC Senteno, also served in Korea and in the Vietnam War. Between conflicts, he was attached to the 49th Armored Division (the division at the time was headquarte­red out of Fort Polk, Louisiana U.S. Army. SFC Senteno was called into Active Duty by the late President John F. Kennedy, during the 1961 Berlin Crisis. SFC Senteno was recognized by the US Army for his bravery and valor during combats and was awarded 1 Silver Star with Gallantry

W/Palm, 2 Bronze Stars, 3 Purple Hearts, Combat Badge with a star and numerous Good Conduct and Meritoriou­s Commendati­on Metals. In addition, he also earned 12 Overseas Stripes. After serving several tours in the Vietnam War, SFC Senteno’s active duty was extended at the request and for the convenienc­e of the Government; he was sent to Germany to finish out his enlistment in the U.S. Army and retired on September 30, 1979, after 30 years and 10 months of U. S. Military Active Service. SFC Senteno settled in Houston, Texas where he lived an active life in his community. On April 1, 1995, he passed away and was placed to rest with full military honors at the Veterans Houston National Cemetery. SFC Senteno will mostly be remembered by his peers as being a member of an elite group of enlisted Men and Women that received as many Decoration­s, Commendati­ons, and Medals
