Perry, Navy sink SMU on late TD; TSU falls to 0-11

ANNAPOLS, Md. — Navy quarterbac­k Malcolm Perry generated 357 yards of total offense and scored the game-winning touchdown in a 35-28 victory over No. 25 SMU on Saturday.

Perry found a seam and scampered 70 yards with just over six minutes remaining to break a tie. He finished with 195 yards on 38 carries with two touchdowns on the ground and completed 9 of 15 passes for 162 yards and another score.

The Midshipmen still have a shot at the West Division crown of the American Athletic Conference should No. 18 Memphis falter down the stretch. The Tigers own the tiebreaker by virtue of their 35-23 victory over Navy on Sept. 26. SMU (9-2, 5-2) was officially eliminated from AAC title contention.

CJ Sanders had a 100yard kick-off return for SMU, tied for the longest in the 60-year history of NavyMarine Corps Memorial Stadium.

After trailing 21-10 at the half, the Midshipmen (8-2, 6-1) cut into the margin on a 1-yard plunge by Perry and a 25-yard field goal by Bijan Nichols on their first two possession­s of the third quarter.

SMU tied it at 28-all on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Shane Buechele to Rashee Rice.

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 45 TEXAS SOUTHERN 13

Taeyler Porter rushed for a season-high 197 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns and the Golden Lions beat the Tigers at Pine Bluff, Ark., for their first winning season in seven years.

Skyler Perry passed for two touchdowns and Taylor Holston and Shannon Patrick passed for one apiece for the Golden Lions (6-5, 3-4 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), who snapped a three-game skid. DeJuan Miller had 106 yards receiving. Henry Ballard III, Daryl Carter and Tyrin Ralph had TD catches.

De’Andre Johnson was 29-of-43 passing for 222 yards and a touchdown and he also rushed for a score for the Tigers (0-11, 0-7), who have not had a winning season since 2000.

MCNEESE ST. 27, LAMAR 3

Justin Pratt carried 27 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns to help the Cowboys win at Beaumont.

The Cowboys’ last 200yard rushing came 11 years ago when Toddrick Pendland rushed for 242 yards on Nov. 8, 2008.

Cody Orgeron was 14of-22 passing for 238 yards with one touchdown and two intercepti­ons for McNeese (7-5, 5-4 Southland Conference).

Shane Johnson passed for 110 yards on just six completion­s for Lamar (4-8, 2-7).

FLORIDA ATLANTIC 40 TEXAS-SAN ANTONIO 26

Chris Robison passed for 336 yards and a touchdown and B.J. Emmons ran for two scores as the Owls won at San Antonio.

NEW MEXICO ST. 44 TEXAS-EL PASO 35

Jason Huntley had 191 yards rushing on 14 carries with three touchdowns and the Aggies won at Las Cruces, N.M.

Kai Locksley threw for 358 yards and two scores for UTEP (1-10) to go along with 103 yards rushing on 18 carries and a touchdown. Justin Garrett caught four passes for 101 yards and a touchdown for the Miners.

The Aggies improved to 2-9.

APPALACHIA­N ST. 35 TEXAS STATE 13

Darrynton Evans ran for 154 yards and three secondhalf touchdowns and the No. 23 Mountainee­rs won at Boone, N.C.

Zac Thomas threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns to help the Mountainee­rs (10-1, 6-1 Sun Belt) improve to 30-6 at home since becoming an FBS team in 2014.

Texas State trailed 14-13 midway through the third quarter before linebacker Noel Cook intercepte­d a tipped pass in Texas State territory, setting up a 13yard TD run around right end by Evans.

Tyler Vitt threw for 154 yards and a touchdown for Texas State (3-8, 2-5).

MISSISSIPP­I ST. 45 ABILENE CHRISTIAN 7

Tommy Stevens had two touchdown passes and ran for another as the host Bulldogs routed the Wildcats.

The Bulldogs (5-6) rolled up 577 yards of offense and had 372 yards rushing.
