Humbled and proud

-

Regarding “New citizens naturalized at City Hall” (A3, Nov. 23) I was pleased to see the picture of the 44 new naturalized citizens being sworn in at City Hall on the front page of the City/State section of Saturday's paper. I help the League of Women Voters hand out voter registration cards to the 2,600 new naturalized citizens who are sworn in every month — and sometimes twice a month — at the massive M.O. Campbell Auditorium on Aldine Bender Road. Usually around 120 countries are represented, and I get choked up every time I witness these new citizens take the oath and repeat the Pledge of Allegiance. It is very humbling and makes me so proud of our wonderfully diverse city. Joanna Friesen, Houston
