Helping iPhone recognize computer

Device forgetful on occasion, but easy change is made in settings

- Helpline@chron.com

Q: Whenever I connect my iPhone to my computer I get a pop-up that asks me if I want to trust the computer. I always say yes, but it keeps asking me. Is there a way to make this stop?

A: There are two situations where you might want to connect a computer to an iPhone.

One is to manage data on the phone and the other is to simply charge the device.

When I connect my iPhone to my home computer I want to be able to access the data and also back the phone up to iTunes.

When I connect my iPhone to my office computer I just want to charge it.

Typically, when you answer the trust question popup, the iPhone will remember your choice and won’t ask you again when unless it is connected to a computer it has not been connected to before.

But once in a while, the iPhone just can’t seem to remember which computers to trust and will go into a loop where you are forced to respond every time you connect.

To sort this problem, tap on Settings, then General and then Reset.

This will bring up a list of things you can reset on the phone.

The option you are looking for is called Reset Location & Privacy.

If you tap that you will be prompted to enter your passcode and then given the option to Reset Settings, which will cause the phone to forget all previous computers it has been connected to.

Unplug the phone and then reconnect it.

You will be prompted again on the Trust question, but the phone should remember your choice now.
