HomeAid delivers holiday gift to Fort Bend Women’s Center
HomeAid Houston recently delivered some Holiday Cheer to the women and children at Fort Bend Women’s Center (FBWC). Dozens of gift cards worth $3,950 were donated earlier in the month to HomeAid by the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Adopt-AFamily program. Cards from Kohl’s, Target, H-E-B and VISA gift cards were presented to FBWC’s
Becky Watts, volunteer engagement manager and Vita Goodell, executive director. The cards were valued from $25 to $50 each.
“We are so grateful for the kind hearts of GHBA members and HomeAid,” said Goodell. “They’ve been such a great blessing to us this year. We will be able to supply many of our clients and their children with necessities because of this generous donation.”
Fort Bend Women’s Center has been bringing healing and hope to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1980. Their mission is to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children achieve safety and selfsufficiency, while striving to prevent violence against women.
The agency is the only dedicated domestic violence and sexual assault emergency shelter and crisis hotline in Fort Bend County. In addition to these crisis intervention services, they are also the largest regional provider of non-residential services such as counseling, case management, advocacy and other support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Fort Bend Women’s Center is also a major provider of housing programs, including short to long term assistance, for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their clients are primarily from Fort Bend and Harris counties though services are open to any survivor of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
HomeAid Houston is looking forward to partnering with FBWC on an upcoming project that will provide additional housing for their clients. Plans are underway and will be announced in early 2020.
“The HomeAid team was proud and honored to represent the GHBA Adopt-A-Family program by delivering nearly 150 gift cards to some very deserving families,” said Carole Brady, executive director of HomeAid. “The work FBWC does every day is making a difference in the lives of women and their children who have nowhere else to turn as they try to rebuild their lives in a safe environment. We are looking forward to finalizing the details of our upcoming project with them in 2020.”
HomeAid has been building transformational housing for homeless care agencies throughout Houston and surrounding counties since 2003. The first shelter was dedicated in 2005. Since then, 54 projects have been completed, adding over 441 beds and $14.2 million in real estate construction and improvements to Houston’s homeless community.
