In free-speech ratings, only A&M gets a pass

-

In a review of policies from 20 state colleges, only Texas A&M University received a “green light” for policies that do not impede free speech on campus, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a nonprofit that aims to protect the rights of students and faculty at the nation’s colleges.

Four Texas colleges, including the University of Houston and the University of Texas, received “red lights” for “at least one policy that both clearly and substantially restricts freedom of speech,” the foundation reported. Both UH and UT’s flawed policies have been revised, according to officials at those universities. Fourteen universities, including Rice, Texas Southern and UT-San Antonio, received a “yellow light.”
