HomeAid receives contributions to mark end of 2019
HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association received several contributions in the last quarter of
2019 to round out a successful year in fundraising, project development and project completions.
HomeAid held their annual fundraiser at The Westin/Memorial City called “New Beginnings.” The event was the 11th annual HomeAid’s Amazing Ladies’ Organization (HALO) luncheon.
Nearly 500 women and several men, representing a variety of industries and professions were in attendance. The event raised approximately $130,000. Guests heard a number of speakers who are working through crisis situations and who shared their journey to rebuild their lives.
After being selected as one of four charities to compete for funds at OKRA Charity Saloon in downtown Houston, HomeAid and the three other local charities installed a display that depicts their individual missions.
HomeAid’s mission is ‘to build new lives for families and individuals through housing and community outreach’. For each purchased drink or food item, guests received a ticket for one vote that they cast that evening for their favorite charity.
The charity with the most votes at the end of the month received the next month’s proceeds. HomeAid was the winning display and was presented with a check in October for $4,158.88.
HomeAid has been honored to be a recipient of the O’Neill Foundation grant program over the years. HomeAid was awarded a grant for $10,000 in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Through the O’Neill Foundation grant making program focuses on “whole-family” approaches that strive to meet the needs of the entire family unit; addressing the needs of both children and the adults in their lives together.
This approach recognizes that families come in all different shapes and sizes and that families define themselves.
By supporting efforts that align or integrate services for children and their caregivers, The O’Neill Foundation creates better opportunities for families to thrive together.
Texas nonprofit Manners Coole, another longtime supporter of HomeAid, donated $35,000 to the agency in late 2019 and is designated for 2020.
The last donated funds for 2019 were presented to HomeAid from M/I Homes who built a GHBA Benefit Home. This is a 40-year old charity fundraiser sponsored by the GHBA. M/I Homes built their Benefit home on a lot donated by The Howard Hughes Corporation in their community of Bridgeland. M/I Homes donated construction management.
The home was built with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members. The home sold and proceeds from the sale were divided between HomeAid and Operation Finally Home. HomeAid received $87,347.88 in December.
HomeAid also received $3,950 worth of gift cards from the GHBA Adopt-A-Family program. The cards were $25 to $50 each. The cards were for purchases at
Walmart, Kohl’s, Target and H-E-B, and several Visa gift cards were included in the donation. The HomeAid team delivered the cards to Fort Bend Women’s Center in time for Christmas.
“GHBA members and others from the community continue to step up and provide funds so HomeAid can successfully complete (its) mission,” said Patrick Mayhan, the 2019 president of HomeAid. “These generous companies and individuals understand that without help from within the community, the homeless numbers will continue to rise.”
Since 2003, HomeAid Houston has completed 54 projects that added more than $14 million in real estate to Houston’s homeless community.
HomeAid is located at 9511 West Sam Houston Parkway North.
