GHBA Benefit Homes Project anticipates another banner year

-

The Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit Homes Project’s charity fundraiser is celebrating its 40th year of giving back to the community.

Since 1980, members of the GHBA have been donating construction, materials, labor and time to build two to three Benefit homes a year, that when sold at market value, will benefit two local charities — HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.

“This is a huge milestone in the history of the Benefit Homes Project,” said Casey Morgan, CEO of the GHBA. “Forty years is a long time to be working with our builder, vendor and developer members to give back to the community. Last year was a banner year with three builders coming on board in three different developments.”

The charity has raised more than $11 million for a number of charitable organizations. HomeAid Houston came on as an official charity of the GHBA in 2003 and Operation Finally Home became an official charity of the GHBA in 2017.

The 2019 builders were Chesmar Homes, that raised nearly $250,000 with the sale of their Mesquite plan in NorthGrove, a Toll Brothers’ community; M/I Homes, that raised $244,000 with the sale of their Roseville plan in Bridgeland, and HistoryMaker Homes who began construction later in the year and is currently nearing completion of their Alder plan in Sierra Vista.

With Chesmar’s participation in 2019, they completed their sixth Benefit home and M/I Homes completed their second Benefit home. Sierra Vista, a Land Tejas development, was the company’s 17th lot donation and Bridgeland was The Howard Hughes Corporation’s sixth lot donation to the fundraiser.

“It is contributions like these that reflect the generous nature of the home building industry in the Houston area,” Morgan said. “It is also a tribute to the hundreds of magnanimous vendors, suppliers and trades who donate every year for the past 40 years.”

The GHBA Benefit Homes Project is beginning the new year in discussions with a number of potential builder/developer teams who want to participate to carry on the legacy of giving back to the community.

“We are looking forward to finalizing our 2020 builder teams over the next month or two,” Morgan said.
