UH’s skid continues in rout at UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. — Megan Walker scored 22 points, Christyn Williams had 21 and top-ranked UConn responded to its first loss of the season with a 91-51 rout of Houston on Saturday.

Crystal Dangerfiel­d added 17 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa had 13 for UConn (13-1, 4-0 American Athletic).

The Huskies lost to Baylor on Thursday night. They have gone 975 games over 27 years without losing twice in a row.

Dorian Branch scored 13 points for Houston (8-9, 1-2), which has lost three of its last four games.

The Huskies have never lost in the AAC and won their 106th straight regular-season conference game and 124th when tournament games are included.

RICE 68, FIU 47

The visiting Owls cruised to their fourth consecutiv­e victory with a win over the Panthers (4-11, 1-3 Conference USA).

Rice (9-6, 4-0) broke the game open in the third quarter thanks to a 14-0 run.

Three Owls scored in double-figures, led by 12 points apiece from sophomore guard Jasmine Smith and freshman wing Lauren Schwartz.

Erica Ogwumike recorded her fourth straight double-double and fifth of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In the process, Ogwumike (1,330 points as an Owl) surpassed Kirra Jordan for ninth place on the Rice all-time scoring list.

Despite a 26-24 halftime lead, the visiting Huskies lost to the Cardinals.

Three Houston Baptist (4-10, 0-5 Southland Conference) players finished in double figures, led by Megan Valdez-Crader, who had 16.

Amber Vidal also finished with 16 points to lead Lamar (8-7, 4-2). The Cardinals outscored the Huskies 36-27 in the second half.

Niya Mitchell scored 23 points and pulled down 21 rebounds as the host Tigers beat the rival Panthers.

Mitchell was 9-of-14 from the field and pulled down eight offensive rebounds as TSU (8-6, 3-0

Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) outrebound­ed Prairie View 34-20.

Ciani Cryor led all scorers with 25 points, while Tamaria White added 11 off the bench for TSU, which led 42-31 at halftime.

Four Prairie View A&M (3-12, 0-3) players finished in double figures, led by Diana Rosenthal with 15.
