Each year, the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) honors a member that has made an outstanding contribution to the community, primarily outside the scope of the real estate industry. The criteria for the John E. Wolf Community Service Award, which is named after 1938-39 HAR president John E. Wolf, include leadership and service in charitable organizations, service organizations and special service organizations. For 2019, Jamie Lynn Gilmore has been posthumously selected as the HAR member most deserving of this honor. She passed away on the
June 20, 2019, at the age of 37, after fighting cancer since the age of 14. In May 2012, after a fourth relapse, Gilmore had had enough. She embarked on a mission to find a cure. With the help of family and friends she founded the Jamie’s Hope Foundation. Initially, Gilmore wanted the foundation to support research for her type of cancer, acinic cell carcinoma. However, being the selfless person that she was, she didn’t want to focus on such a rare cancer and her desires turned to finding hope for all. The mission of Jamie’s Hope is to support personalized medicine research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center while helping those directly affected by cancer and raising awareness on cancer prevention and early detection.
Houston Association of Realtors also honors Mike Wong as 2019 Realtor of the Year. Wong, director of Commercial Real Estate at Keller Williams Realty Southwest and 2019 Chairman
of the Houston Asian American Real Estate Association (AAREA), was selected as the most deserving of this recognition.
“I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love in this city of opportunity. The most gratifying work is helping people by making a difference in their lives and by serving my commercial clients as they generate a ripple effect of new jobs and a positive economic impact in our communities,” he said.
