Thank You Houston

-

On the eve of what would be CERAWeek 2020 by IHS Markit, we would like to extend our deep thanks and appreciation to the city of Houston.

Houston has been home to our CERAWeek energy conference for more than 35 years. The reason is clear: Houston is the energy capital of the world. It is home to both CERAWeek and to one of the main offices of IHS Markit, with 500 employees in the greater Houston area.

The decision by IHS Markit to cancel CERAWeek 2020, and two other conferences in other cities, was necessary in light of the rapid spread of COVID-19. CERAWeek would have drawn delegates from over 80 other countries to the city. By no means was this decision a reflection on the city of Houston itself.

CERAWeek and IHS Markit are deeply committed to Houston, and we are already scheduled to be back next year for CERAWeek 2021. Be assured that this decision to cancel CERAWeek 2020 was made only after deep consideration.

CERAWeek would not be possible without Houston’s vibrant community. We greatly value the many strong partnerships and friendships that we have formed with its institutions and companies—from the energy industry to universities and medical centers—and with the city itself. We are appreciative of the leadership of Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Houston, we are honored and grateful for your hospitality and support these many years.

Houston will always be the city to host CERAWeek to discuss the state of the world’s energy industry and its future.

We look forward to CERAWeek returning to Houston in 2021.

Sincerely, Lance Uggla
