Tax sale investing event scheduled for April 3-5
As a real estate investor and educator in the Houston market over the past decade, there is one question that students always ask Brandon “Dutch” Mendenhall: “If you had to do all over again, what would you do differently and why?”
So, if he could turn back the clock, there are two things he would have done differently.
“I would have specialized in tax sale properties from the inception of my real estate investing career. Early on I got sidetracked with short sales, wholesaling, flipping, and even subject to investing. The culmination of all of this was me being a ‘Jack of all (trades) and a master of none,’” he said. “For those that are looking to create wealth with real estate investing, it is my strong recommendation that you focus on a particular niche in real estate. For those of you with financial capital already, my strongest recommendation is that you specialize in tax sale properties as I have here in Harris County.”
The second thing Mendenhall would have changed is that he would have invested heavier in Houston just after the 2008 market crash.
“Houston is a city with a very broad scale of real estate opportunities, and it is the fourth most populous city in the United States. But what really drives me to invest in this city is the infrastructure and the numerous anchors,” he said “At the heart of Houston is the world’s largest concentration of research and health care institutions, numerous universities and its world-recognized energy industry. Furthermore, Texas has some of the most favorable tax sale laws in the country.” Upcoming event
