Here are some family-oriented activities taking place in the Houston area at venues that are in the process of reopening.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM HOUSTON

Although the Children’s Museum is currently closed, it is offering daily virtual learning programs including story times, workshops and Tot*Tunes for toddlers.

HOUSTON MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE

British artist Luke Jerram, the sculptor behind guest favorite “Moon by Luke Jerram,” returns to HMNS with “Gaia — Earth by Luke Jerram.” Measuring 23 feet in diameter, Gaia features 120 dpi-detailed

NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. More detailed than your classroom world map ever was, the imagery for the artwork was compiled as a part of NASA’s Visible Earth series. The project, called

“Blue Marble Next Generation,” turns satellite data into digital images with a spatial resolution of 500 square meters per pixel. Facemasks are required for all visitors older than 10.

ART CAR MUSEUM

The museum is open by appointmen­t only. Visitors and staff must wear face masks and are advised to utilize a hand-washing station outside the museum before entering. The Art Car Museum is a private institutio­n dedicated to contempora­ry art with an emphasis on art cars, other fine arts and artists who are rarely, if ever, acknowledg­ed by other cultural institutio­ns.

HOUSTON ZOO

The Houston Zoo will reopen on June 3. Guests must make online reservatio­ns. Safety modificati­ons include free hand-sanitizing stations along the path, at restrooms and food locations. Though food will be available for purchase, guests are welcome to bring in their outside food and nonalcohol­ic drinks. High-touch areas will remain closed; this includes the carousel and the water play area.

When: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. 7 days a week beginning June 3

ASIA SOCIETY TEXAS CENTER

The Houston Asia Society

Texas Center also reopens June 3. Exhibits at the Fayez Sarofim Grand Hall and Louisa Stude Sarofim Gallery are free through Aug. 31. Guests will be required to wear face masks and stay 6 feet away from each other. The gallery is limited to 25 people. Pondi Cafe remains closed.

The current exhibits “Eternal Offerings: Chinese Ritual Bronzes” and “Form Is Emptiness, Emptiness Is Form” will be available for visiting 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays

GALVESTON MOODY GARDENS

Attraction­s are open, and capacity restrictio­ns are well within compliance of the Phase 2 government­al orders. Visitors can enjoy the Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, MG3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: An Interactiv­e Adventure, Colonel Paddlewhee­l Boat and the new Dinos Alive exhibit. The Moody Gardens Hotel and The Moody Gardens Golf Course are also open. Palm Beach is currently closed.
