Higher education offers many job openings
Area colleges and universities have many job openings and are looking for talent, especially the University of Houston (UH) and The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP).
Websites for both schools have many open positions in diverse fields, full and part-time, from administrative to faculty, and a little bit of everything in between.
“Given COVID-19, some of our recruitment efforts have been moving slower than usual, focusing on recruiting critical positions that can secure our continuity of research activities and services for our students,” said Gaston Reinoso, associate vice president, Human Resources, UH.
All positions posted on the UH website are currently open. And the positions UH most often hires for are academic advisors, financial coordinators, and various administrative positions.
“We hire all types of employees, including new graduates or those who recently completed their education. Education and experience requirements are specific to each position and may vary,” Reinoso
said.
When it comes to recruiting top level positions, UH posts them on its website with all other open positions.
“We also leverage specific recruitment efforts for high-level positions, sometimes utilizing executive search firms. Our goal is to be what the future of higher education looks like. UH has one the most diverse student bodies in the nation, and we are nestled in the heart of one of the most diverse cities in the country. We want our faculty to reflect the diversity of our students,” Reinoso said.
Moreover, UH offers a robust benefits package and competitive pay.
“Our benefit offerings are an important component for our employee retention success,” Reinoso said.
Openings in Houston, across the state
The College of Health Care Professions also has many openings in Houston and across the state.
CHCP was founded by physicians with the MacGregor Medical Association based in the Texas Medical Center. CHCP has been educating students for allied health careers for 30 years. Today, it serves approximately
5,000 students and have more than 17,000 graduates.
CHCP has 10 residential campuses across Texas and in 47 states, which means there are transfer opportunities if there are openings. Presently, it offers 10 online programs and 16 programs on campuses. Due to the pandemic, all programs are now online.
However, for clinical hands-on training, small groups of students, practicing all requirements such as social distancing and face masks, are completing their lab classes on campus.
“Some of the most in-demand job openings are for faculty and instructors who have the
education and experience working in the field. We also have admission advisor positions open,” said Toma Brewer, human resources, ICARE Team, CHCP.
Financial aid advisors are also in demand.
“We have seen a large increase in students registering for programs. With the pandemic there is a demand for health care workers all over the country, including Houston. Due to the increase in the number of students, we are recruiting more instructors and faculty to teach,” Brewer said.
