Cubs lose game, win NL Central

CHICAGO — Yoan Moncada homered, Jose Abreu hit a three-run double and the playoff-bound Chicago White Sox beat the NL Central champion Chicago Cubs 9-5 at Guaranteed Rate Field to snap a six-game losing streak Saturday.

The Cubs clinched their third division title in five years when St. Louis lost to Milwaukee.

NATIONALS SWEEP METS: The New York Mets were eliminated from playoff contention in a 4-3 loss to Washington in the opener of a doublehead­er. The Nationals took the second game 5-3.

TWINS 7, REDS 3: Luis Arraez matched career highs with four hits and three RBIs, and Minnesota clinched home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs with a victory at Cincinnati.The Twins can wrap up their second consecutiv­e division crown — and the No. 2 seed in the AL — with a win Sunday.

BREWERS 3, CARDINALS 0: Brandon Woodruff allowed two hits in eight innings and Milwaukee kept its playoff hopes alive with a win at St. Louis.

PADRES 6, GIANTS 2: Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 17th home run and visiting San Diego beat San Francisco, leaving the Giants in need of help to make the playoffs. San Francisco is tied with Milwaukee for the final NL playoff spot. The Brewers hold the tiebreaker, which means the Giants need to beat San Diego on Sunday and Milwaukee needs to lose to St. Louis for San Francisco to reach the playoffs.

DODGERS 7, ANGELS 6: Joc Pederson drove in three runs as the host Dodgers came from behind to win.

YANKEES 11, MARLINS 4: DJ LeMahieu had his fourth four-hit game and three RBIs to lead host New York.

RAYS 4, PHILLIES 3: Mike Zunino, Brandon Lowe and Willy Adames had run-scoring singles as Tampa Bay clinched the AL No. 1 seed.

RED SOX 8, BRAVES 2: Tanner Houck struck out 10, Christian Vazquez hit a grand slam in Boston’s road win.

PIRATES 8, INDIANS 0: Cleveland suffered a setback in its bid to host a first-round playoff series with the loss.

BLUE JAYS 5, ORIOLES 2: Cavan Biggio broke up a no-hit bid with a solo home run in the sixth inning and Toronto beat Baltimore at Buffalo, N.Y.

MARINERS SWEEP ATHLETICS: Oakland stumbled to a 12-3 loss in Game 2 as the Seattle swept their doublehead­er. The Mariners won the opener 5-1.

ROCKIES 10, DIAMONDBAC­KS 3: German Marquez threw seven solid innings and Colorado won at home.

TIGERS 4, ROYALS 3: Niko Goodrum and Austin Romine keyed a three-run first in Detroit’s road win.
