Miami slips past Dynamo on Morgan’s penalty kick

-

Lewis Morgan scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, leading Inter Miami a 1-0 win over the Dynamo on Saturday night.

The shot was set up when Houston’s Aljaz Struna committed a foul in the penalty area. The goal was Morgan’s fifth of the season.

Miami (5-10-2) won its second straight and moved within a point of Nashville for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Dynamo (4-6-7) and Colorado have 19 points and are tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Titans reopen practice facility

The NFL cleared the Tennessee Titans to reopen their practice facility after the team had no new positive COVID-19 tests for a second straight day.

The Titans, whose headquarters had been closed for 11 days amid the first coronavirus outbreak on an NFL team, practiced in their indoor facility to begin in-person preparations for their rescheduled game Tuesday night.

The New England Patriots, meanwhile, practiced Saturday without perhaps their two most important players — quarterback

Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore — as they readied for their rescheduled game Monday.

The Patriots also had no new positive test results Saturday, but the Chicago Bears had a positive test for a player and the Kansas

City Chiefs had one for a staff member.

Neither result is expected to affect the teams’ schedules.

The New Orleans Saints upgraded All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas to questionable.

• The New York Jets activated running back Le’Veon Bell (hamstring) from the injured reserve list after he missed the past three games, and he’ll be eligible to play today at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

New York also elevated quarterback Mike White from the practice squad. With starter Sam Darnold (shoulder sprain) out, Joe Flacco will start and

White will be his backup.

• The 49ers put defensive lineman Ezekiel Ansah and cornerback K’Waun Williams on injured reserve.

Ansah is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral, while Williams is expected back later this season from injuries to his knee and hip.

Kim stays in front at Women’s PGA

Sei Young Kim had another excellent outing at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, shooting a 3-under 67 Saturday to hold the lead after three rounds at Aronimink in Newtown, Pa.

The South Korean sits at 7-under 203, two strokes ahead of Brooke Henderson and Anna Nordqvist as she tries for her first career major championship. A 10-time LPGA Tour winner, Kim was runner-up at the 2015 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and tied for second at the Evian Championship in 2018.

The past four winners of the tournament either led or co-led after 36 holes, and Kim played like a golfer poised to make it five.

Henderson, who won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship, tied her career-best 18-hole score at a major championship with a 65 to stay within striking distance. Henderson had five birdies for a bogey-free round.

Nordqvist shot a 68 as she tries to win her third major championship. In other news:

• Patrick Cantlay picked up enough birdies on the back nine to catch up to Martin Laird, and they each had a 6-under 65 to share the lead going into the final round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.

It was another day of low scoring for just about everyone but U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau. He had a pair of double bogeys through six holes and went from one shot behind to barely inside the top 40.

DeChambeau was 5 over through a five-hole stretch on the front nine. At the TPC Summerlin, that feels much more over par. “About 12,” he said. He rallied for an evenpar 71, but that left him seven shots behind with 30 players ahead of him.
