GRACE M. COSTOLNICK
1938-2021
Grace M. Costolnick, age 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away suddenly at home on February 20, 2021. She and her husband, John, would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in October.
Born in Archbald, Pennsylvania on September 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Theresa and Frank Marasco. She attended St. Thomas Aquinis Elementary School in Archbald and St. Rose High School in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1956. She then graduated from Madame Fenwick’s School of Cosmetology in Scranton, Pennsylvania and opened Grace’s Beauty Salon in Clarks Green, Pennsylvania in 1957, which she operated until their marriage in 1962.
Grace was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter-in-law, and friend to many. She and her husband were devout Catholics and inspired that strong faith in their children and grandchildren. They strongly believed in higher education for their children and grandchildren, all of whom have graduated from college. Grace and John were frequent travelers by land, sea, and air. Their trips ranged from Antarctica to the Arctic and all around the world, touching all seven continents. Each year they would take a family trip to a favorite location such as the beautiful mountainous Jackson Hole, Wyoming or amazing African safaris. That traveling interest was strengthened during John’s work assignment in Brussels, Belgium from 1979 to 1984. They then moved back to their current home in Houston. Grace’s favorite travel destination was Africa, where they visited six different times, the last two trips with the entire family. Grace was an active member of the Huntwick Women’s and Empty Nesters Clubs. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed coloring, ceramics painting, and making creative decorations for the home.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Francis Marasco.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John, her son, Robert, and his wife, Stacey, her daughter, Maria Hendon, and her husband, Joseph, her daughter, Ellen, and her daughter, Nancy Costolnick Powell, and her husband Michael, all residing in Houston, and her three beautiful grandchildren, Clayton, Allison, and Jonathan. Also surviving are her brother, Ralph Marasco, and sister, Mary Michalski, both in Pennsylvania, brother-inlaw, Joseph Costolnick, and his wife, Mary, of Georgia, and brother-in-law, Charles Speicher, of Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank Rev. A. Peter Gregory of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and Nancy Parshall of Houston, Texas for their long and enduring friendship and support for many years.
Any contributions in Grace’s name can be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
