It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Walter McMillan, III. He passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas on March 1, 2021 at the age of 78. John was born July 22, 1942 in Midland, Texas to the late John Walter McMillan, ll and Catherine Newnham McMillan. He graduated from Lamar High School (1960). Upon graduation he attended New Mexico Military Institute. He attended Texas A&M University (1964) where he received a degree in Marketing. Upon graduating he joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a medic. He always called the Coast Guard “the world’s most fierce fighting force. “

He is survived by his wife Marsha McMillan; son John Troy McMillan and wife Monica of Magnolia, Texas; his brother Kemp McMillan and wife Diane of Houston, Texas; two step-daughters, Cara Howard and husband Danny of Dallas, Texas, and Julie Fried and husband Trent of Louisville, Kentucky; one grandson, Coen, one step grandson, Wesley; two step granddaugh­ters, Shelby and Lindsey; and one step great grandson, Henry. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on March 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm, at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham, Houston, TX, 77065. Following the service, there will be a celebratio­n of his life at their home.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Johnny, can make a donation in his name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
