Offline Google Drive access

- Helpline@chron.com

Q: I am completely lost in my attempt to find and move files from my Google Drive to an SD card on my Android tablet. I would like to have access to these files with or without internet access.

A: Google Drive offers two ways of accessing your files. One is the ability to download them as needed without consuming space on your device.

This is usually all most people need, but if your files are in the cloud and you have no internet access, it can make things a little difficult.

Google Drive, like most cloud services, offers Offline Mode. It’s a way to access your files on your own device, but still keep them synced to the cloud. If you need to modify a file and you have no internet, you can make your changes and they will be uploaded when access is restored.

To learn how to enable this on your device, see the Google support article at support.google.com/ drive/answer/2375012.

Q: I am using the AOL app on my iPhone 11 and iPad and am unable to get notifications of new messages. I have selected Receive All Notifications in the AOL app, but I still get no alerts. I am using the free version of AOL so they won’t help me. Do you have a solution?

A: I found documentation at help.aol.com that addresses this very issue.

According to AOL, to receive notifications in the app, you not only have to enable the feature in the application, you have to enable it in the settings of the phone itself.

To AOL’s credit, it has the steps documented on the site, but they look not to have been updated in a while, so the instructions seem to be for an older version of iOS.

To do this on a newer iOS device, tap on Settings, and then Notifications and look for AOL and tap on that. Here you can tell your device to enable notifications for the AOL app.

This should let you get the notifications you have been missing.
