Martha McEvoy Pope died peacefully in Houston, Texas, on March 27, 2021, at the age of 74.

Martha is survived by her spouse, David Bruce Pope; her daughter Katharine and son-in-law Justin Foley, her son John Brandon and daughter-in-law Nicole

Pope; her grandchild­ren Abigail, Alexander, Benjamin, Alexander, and Theodore; her brother Webster and sisterin-law Patsy; her brother-inlaw Bryan and sister-in-law Denice; nieces Jordan and Joanna; and nephews Jonathan, Bryce, and Clark. She is preceded in death by her mother Franke and father Webster McEvoy Jr.

Martha was born on July 9, 1946, in Liberty, Texas, to Franke and Webster McEvoy Jr. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1964 and from Texas Tech University with a degree in Mathematic­s in 1968. She married David Bruce Pope, whom she met at the only computer dance ever held at Texas Tech, in 1967. After moving to Pasadena, Martha began working as a math teacher. In addition to working, she was actively involved in many charities and churches, notably the Midland Children’s Rehabilita­tion Center, Law Wives of Midland, the sisterhood of P.E.O., Cub Scouts of America, bridge clubs, and handbell choirs for Midland’s First United Methodist Church and Houston’s John Wesley United Methodist Church.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on April 6, 2021, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, Texas, 77069. For more informatio­n, contact Klein Funeral Home (Champions) at 281-3202674. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Dunbar will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Martha’s life.
