MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Move ahead with Mini-MBA at C.T. Bauer College of Business
Making strides in your career at the management level is a possibility with the University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business' pioneering Management and Leadership Mini-MBA.
Slated for June 21-25, the one-week program’s courses will be held in classrooms both online and on-campus in facilities used for Bauer’s premier Executive MBA. Students can choose the format that best suits their preferences. Priced at $4,995, early registration is recommended as seating is limited.
The Mini-MBA, conceived by the University of Houston’s C.T. Bauer College of Business, was designed to expose students to the fundamentals of business. Programs have been designed with specializations that focus in more detail on a specific discipline such as management and leadership curriculum.
The purpose of this specific discipline is to offer a holistic view of the role of leaders in organizations and includes factors that decide effective leadership. It also is formulated to enhance students’ competence in strategy formulation.
Steve Werner, Ph.D., JPMorgan Chase professor of International Business and department chair, department of Management and Leadership, C.T. Bauer College of Business University of Houston said the Mini-MBA is an executive education certificate for professional development that covers the foundational and essential content of core and specialized MBA classes.
Topics covered in this program include: foundations of accounting, foundations of finance, foundations of supply chain management, foundations of management and leadership, foundations of marketing, foundations of management information systems, executive communications, managing human resources, ethics workshop, and leading highperformance teams.
The purpose of this specific discipline is to offer a holistic view of the role of leaders in organizations and includes factors that decide effective leadership.
“The total program captures the essentials of management and leadership including topics related to business strategy, organizational behavior, staffing, training and development, performance management, team building, and legal and ethical considerations in leadership,” said Werner.
He said this program is a good fit for almost any career or occupation as most have a management track. Werner explained that this program is for those who have recently been promoted into management or would like to be promoted into management but do not have the time or financial means to earn a conventional MBA degree.
“Although I believe that the knowledge and skills covered in this program will benefit any worker, it will be particularly valuable to those who now have to manage, lead, or supervise other employees when they have little experience in doing so,” Werner said.
When a promotion occurs, job responsibilities evolve.
“When employees get promoted into managerial positions, their job substantially changes into a different job requiring new knowledge and skills. This program can help them acquire important components of that knowledge and skills in a short time,” said Werner.
To conclude, there will be an assessment and a certification ceremony.
Upon completion, a student who successfully passes the certificate assessment will receive a $5,000 discount toward the University of Houston’s Executive MBA degree or receive three credits to be applied towards their full-time or professional MBA degrees.
Certain rules and restrictions apply. These include – but are not limited to – passing a final assessment and/or final project with a B- or higher.
