Anna Patricia Froyd Pearce was born April 9, 1924 and passed away peacefully in her home on March 29, 2021. Anna was born to Ola Nelson Froyd and Bengta Andersson Froyd who were Swedish immigrants from Kristianstadlan. Her parents were very active in the El Jardin community in Brownsville, Texas, with Ola serving on the election board and school board.

It was a cold and rainy day when Ola hitched up the wagon to pick up Mrs. Hanna and bring her back to the house where she assisted with the birth of Anna.

Anna was the youngest of seven children who have all predeceased her. They were Nels Albert Froyd, Ernest Henning Froyd, Ruth Elizabeth Froyd McCreary, Mildred Elna Froyd, John Leonard Froyd, and George Emmitte Froyd.

They were a farming family where all of the children worked the fields picking cotton and growing food.

All of the Froyd siblings attended El Jardin School in Brownsville, Texas. The school only went through the 7th grade for the two oldest before it expanded to 12 grades. Ruth and Anna were Valedictorians and Mildred and John were Salutatorians of their classes. Anna also played baseball and excelled at basketball where she made All Valley Forward.

Anna attended Brownsville Jr College, where she was Phi Theta Kappa, and then Texas A&I in Kingsville earning a B.A. in English and her teaching certificate in only 3 years.

Anna taught at Pharr San Juan High School. She then worked for O. C. Emory Insurance Co in McAllen, Texas where she was introduced to her husband Robert Deye Pearce. They were married in Brownsville in 1949 and until his death in 2013. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Anna was a member of St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Houston where she was active in the children’s department teaching Sunday school and in the Mother’s Day Out pre-kindergarten program for almost 30 years.

Anna and her husband were both very active in their children’s activities, including Scouting, sports, and music. She also enjoyed travels with her sister, Mildred, visiting Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Upon retirement, Anna and her husband moved to New Braunfels, Texas.

Anna is survived by her three children, Nelson Froyd Pearce (Leslie Pearce), Betty Pearce (John Cook), and Anita Pearce. Her grandchildren are Amber P. Richards (Geoff Richards) and Austin N. Pearce. Anna was the best Granma ever. Great grandchildren: Nels Pearce and Russell Pearce.
