Irene Pfingsten passed away March 14 at her home in Houston, following a brief illness. Born June 3,

1951 to Max and Gertrud

(nee Steinhilpe­r) Strauss of Freiberg-am-Neckar, Germany, Irene came to Texas in 1971. Always a gracious hostess, one of Irene’s favorite activities was welcoming friends and family, both local and from around the world, into her home for food and fellowship. Loved ones will miss her adventurou­s spirit in the kitchen, and especially the good times and laughter shared around her table. Over the years, Irene was active in the Houston Saengerbun­d, the Houston Restaurant Associatio­n Ladies Auxiliary, and most recently the Houston Liederkran­z—an organizati­on very special to her, which she was honored to serve in various leadership roles. Irene was preceded in death last October by her husband of 35 years, Guenther. She is survived by her beloved children and grandchild­ren: Bernd Scheffler (wife Victoria) and children Roman and Adelaide; Rolf Scheffler (wife Katie) and children

Tyler and Hailey; and Anja Borski (husband Brian) and children Sam and Nora. A gathering celebratin­g the lives of both Guenther and Irene Pfingsten will be held at 10 a.m. April 23 at Klein Funeral Home Cy-Fair Northwest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Houston Liederkran­z.
