Rapinoe’s late penalty kick salvages U.S. draw

STOCKHOLM — The United States women’s soccer team’s 16-match winning streak was snapped in a 1-1 draw with Sweden on Saturday in Carli Lloyd’s 300th national team appearance.

Lina Hurtig put Sweden ahead off a set piece in the 38th minute before Megan Rapinoe’s penalty kick pulled the United States even in the 87th.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Gibson, Shockers slam UH 10-1

Wichita State’s Hunter Gibson struck a grand slam and the Shockers posted a 10-1 victory over Houston in the grand opening of Wichita’s Riverfront Stadium.

In other action:

• Texas pounded out 13 hits to cruise to a 15-1 win over Kansas State at Austin.

The fourth-ranked Longhorns were bolstered by a strong start from Tristan Stevens (5-1), while Mike Antico, Douglas Hodo III and Murphy Stehly each had two-hit games.

• Zane Denton went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs to lead Alabama to a 6-3 victory over Texas

A&M at College Station.

• Manny Garcia’s two-run double lifted Louisiana Tech to a 7-6 victory over Rice in the first game of a doublehead­er at Reckling Park.

• Alec Jones homered and drove in three runs as Oral Roberts beat Houston Baptist 3-1 at Tulsa.

• Jimmy Winston earned his team-leading fourth win of the year with 31⁄3 scoreless innings and Baylor beat West Virginia 7-4 at Waco.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL Baranczyk named Oklahoma coach

Oklahoma has hired Drake coach Jennie Baranczyk as its next women’s basketball coach.

Baranczyk replaces Sherri Coale, who retired last month after 25 years of leading the program. In other news:

• Texas Tech junior guard Kyler Edwards has decided to transfer, head coach Mark Adams said.

Edwards averaged 10.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists this season.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL Sam Houston St. tops McNeese St.

Eric Schmid passed for 202 yards and a touchdown and ran for 92 yards to help Sam Houston State beat McNeese State 27-13 at Huntsville.

The No. 5 Bearkats (5-0, 5-0 Southland Conference) clinched the SLC title outright with Incarnate Word’s loss.

COLLEGE HOCKEY Massachuse­tts captures crown

Filip Lindberg had 25 saves, Aaron Bohlinger scored his first career goal, and Massachuse­tts beat St. Cloud State 5-0 at Pittsburgh on to win the program’s first NCAA national championsh­ip.

HORSE RACING Blackmore wins Grand National

Rachael Blackmore has broken down one of the biggest gender barriers in sports by becoming the first female jockey to win the grueling Grand National horse race.

Blackmore, a 31-year-old from Ireland, rode Minella Times to a victory at odds of 11-1 in the 173rd edition of the famous steeplecha­se at Aintree in Liverpool.

“I don’t feel male or female right now. I don’t even feel human,” Blackmore said. “This is just unbelievab­le.”

Blackmore is the 20th female jockey to compete in a race that has been a British sporting institutio­n since 1839.
