Of Salt and Mountains

- by Sarah Joy Thompson

Editor’s note: In honor of National Poetry Month, poems through May 16 have been selected from books released in 2020 and ’21 by Texas authors.

Meet me where the land meets the sea

Where the closeness of the water and the crags Becomes sacred

Where the sky is our favorite roof overhead Where we may indulge in our vast surroundings Our very own wilderness

Where I can kiss you in the fashion that I please Passionately and loudly

Oh, so loudly

That even the angels will know

How much I love you

When they hear each kiss I plant

On your warm, windblown cheeks

Meet me where the land meets the sea
