ETHEL MARIE (HONEY) PETERSON

-

1926-2021

Ethel Marie (Honey) Peterson entered eternal rest on June 26, 2021, at the age of 94. She was the last matriarch of her family having survived her husband, Robert Edward Peterson, as well as four sisters and two brothers.

Marie was born on October 29, 1926, in St. Augustine, Illinois. She graduated from St Joseph High School in Galesburg, Illinois and then received her RN degree in nursing from Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. Marie & Bob were married on November 26, 1948. Their first daughter, Deanne was born in Galesburg. The family moved to Baytown, Texas in 1951 where their second daughter, Terri, was born. Marie worked for Drs.

Leggett, Lucius, and Cummings for over 25 years. She was also a supervising OB nurse at San Jacinto Hospital (now Baytown Methodist). Through working at both these jobs, Marie was part of helping to deliver numerous Baytown babies. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Marie and Bob were also avid Aggie fans (even though Terri graduated from UT). When asked why she was not a Longhorn fan, she would remark that she had the Aggies before she had Terri. After retirement she and Bob traveled, loving to cruise. Marie continued to travel after Bob’s death; going to Paris for Rob’s wedding and to Australia to visit Deanne’s mother-in-law.

Marie got her nickname from her grandson Rob. He had heard his grandfather call her “Honey” and Rob soon learned that Marie would come if he called for “Honey”.

She was known for the remainder of her life by family and friends.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Deanne Tupcienko and Terri Malone (Lee). She is survived by four grandchildren, Robert Cupps, Jamie Workman (Jason), Joel White (Lacy), and Brenton White (Chloe)and great nephew

Chet Henderson as well as numerous out of state nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She also has six great grandchildren: Connor and London Cupps. Sadie Marie (her namesake) and June White, Hank and Townes White. Honey loved her family and friends. She always had an “open door” policy at her home.

The family would like to thank Barbara Brooks, Myrna Gonzalez, and Tina Harper. All three were devoted and compassionate care givers. We would also like to thank Faith Community Hospice. A celebration of life will be held from 3-5:30pm on Sunday, July 18th at El Toro Restaurant on Garth Road in Baytown, Texas. Marie will be cremated and placed with Bob in the columbarium at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to the Marie Peterson Nursing Scholarship at Lee College Foundation, PO Box 818, Baytown, Texas 775220801. Phone-281-425-6303.
