DAVID WARREN GAUGHAN
1948-2021
Shortly after being diagnosed with leukemia, David died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 5, 2021, in Houston, Texas.
David Warren Gaughan was born August 9, 1948 to Francis Warren and
Mary Elizabeth Gaughan in Independence, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1970 and moved to Houston to work for Shell Development Company. In 1979 he earned a degree from the South Texas College of Law and practiced law for the next 42 years.
David was a lifelong baseball fan, an accomplished runner, and rather than considering golf a good walk spoiled, David preferred to play the course himself. He earned a golf scholarship to KU and was a proud Jayhawk. He watched both of his sons graduate from the University of Kansas, following in his footsteps.
On November 7, 1992 David married Kathleen Hodge, and they were life partners for his best years.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jeff; Jeff ’s partner, Rocky Moody; and his sister Joanne Phillips.
David is survived by his wife Kathy; sons, Michael (Julia) and Andrew (Brogan); grandson, Kiernan; sister Mary Ann Hendel (Steve), nieces Stephanie Byrne (Brian), Jenny Norton (Keith), April Rinner (Jeremy), Alyssa Phillips, Ashlie James, Ariel James; nephews Matthew Hendel (Steve Cook), Avery James, Caleb Hodge; and in-laws Pauline Hodge, Susan Hodge (Mike Stocker), Paula Chavez (Paul), Gary Hodge (Tracy), and Terri Sarver (James).
