HARRIS H. “SONNY” JOHNSTON, JR.

Harris H. “Sonny” Johnston, Jr. passed away at home on July 6, 2021. He was born September 5, 1935 to Harris H. Johnston and Lois Parker Johnston. Sonny was a native Houstonian, graduated from Lamar High School and the University of Houston.

Sonny was a practicing CPA for 55 years, receiving his CPA before he graduated from the UofH. AttheUofH,he was President of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was an active Rotarian for 54 years, past President of the River Oaks Rotary Club, established the Sugar Land Rotary Foundation in 1996, was a three term Sugar Land City Councilman, a founder and Treasurer of the Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation, served on numerous advisory boards, and a proud Veteran of the Korean War.

Of all of his accomplishments, he was most proud and grateful for his family.

His devoted wife of 62 years, Suzanne Alpha Johnston, sons Harris H. Johnston V and his wife Robbin of Sugar Land, and Eric Johnston and his wife Mary Jane of Huntsville. His grandchildren, Megan Lewandowski, Matthew Johnston, Shannon De

La Cruz, and Kelsey Franklin. Great grandson, Gatlin Lewandowski. Sister Peggy Apple of Montgomery. Numerous nieces and nephews that he loved. He was a good man, adoring husband, great Dad, and precious Pepaw.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021, from 6-8 pm at Sugar Land Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Rd, Sugar Land. A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Sugar Land Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Rd, Sugar Land, with a reception to follow in the Narthex. Family will gather for a private military service and interment at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston prior to the memorial service.
