BETTY COFER PRICE

1930-2021

-

Betty Jo Cofer Price passed away on July 11th, 2021, in Groesbeck, TX at the age of 91. A longtime resident of Houston, TX, she leaves behind a legacy of love and service, having volunteered in various capacities within hospitals and churches throughout the city.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Robert

Kent Price, and her husband, Milton Price. She is survived by her three daughters: Karen Stephenson (Dale), Pamela Bulla (Tom) and Laurie Koralewski (Rick); and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.

Born to Georgia and Duard Cofer on April 3, 1930, she spent her childhood on a small farm in Oklahoma. She would soon move to Borger, TX, meeting her future husband, Milton Price, at the local high school. She graduated as salutatorian in 1947 from Borger High School, and then in 1949 from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Betty and Milton were married that winter on December 27, 1949, and would soon move to Santa Fe, NM. Their oldest daughter was born the following year, shortly before the young family would move to San Diego, CA, while Milton served at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. After the completion of his assignment, they returned to Borger, TX, where they would choose to raise their three daughters. Betty was active in a variety of organizations in Borger and during this time was elected to serve as Ms. Sunset Center. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Borger, and later after moving to Amarillo, she was active at the First United Methodist Church there as well. Once her daughters were older, Betty made the decision to return to school herself, graduating from West Texas State University in 1969 with a degree in Speech Pathology. She found her calling in serving others, first as a speech therapist at the Amarillo State Center. Betty and Milton would move to Houston in 1977, where she would soon begin working at MD Anderson Cancer Center as Volunteer Coordinator.

She enjoyed her time working in a hospital setting and would use this experience in her later outreach. As her grandchildren began to arrive, Betty made the decision to stay home to help with their care. She and Milton moved to Katy, TX in 1982, where they would live for over a decade. Betty was active at the First United Methodist Church and at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, both in Katy. During Milton’s illness, Betty began volunteering through CanCare at the Methodist Hospital. Believing that “everyone has a story to tell,” her compassion towards those facing illness was immeasurable. She would be named Volunteer of the Year by CanCare, one of her proudest moments in her lifetime. Believing firmly in Christ and living a life of service were of utmost importance to Betty, as well as loving her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her family would like to thank Drs. Kirk Heyne and Dawn Stoecker-Simon for their kind and compassionate care. Betty will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery alongside her husband, Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CanCare, Inc.
