DAVID MICHAEL DAVENPORT

1965-2021

David entered eternal rest on July 18, 2021 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born in Baltimore, MD on September

27, 1965 to parents Winton (Buck) Davenport and Margaret (Ginger) Martin Davenport. David graduated from Spring Westfield High School in 1983 where he played football and ran track. He attended Houston Baptist University on scholarship for two years where he ran track.

Soon after, he decided he wanted to be a Fighting Texas Aggie and transferred to Texas A&M where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1988.

David’s entire professional life was dedicated to helping others. He began working for the YMCA and served as a Program Director in

The Woodlands, Executive Director in Ft. Worth and eventually Development Director in San Antonio. He worked a short time with children at the Boys and Girls Harbor before turning his focus to ending hunger with the End Hunger Network in Houston. David became President and CEO of Capital Area Food Bank in Austin, TX and Executive Director of Second Harvest Community Food Bank in St Joseph, MO. He was also a Certified Fundraising Professional and served a term on the Political Science Advisory Board at Texas A&M.

After being diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2001, David started a support group for others affected by the disease and became a survivor of a bilateral lung transplant in 2007. His last position and one of his most fulfilling was as the Executive Director of Transplants for Children in San Antonio providing support for families going through organ transplantation.

David is lovingly survived by his parents, sister Julia (Sorrentino), her children Teresa McFarland (Travis), Anna Sorrentino, and Vincent Sorrentino (Courtney). He is also survived by his brother Dan, sister-in-law Payton and their sons Reid & Jackson Davenport. He leaves his legacy with his children, twin daughters Lauren and Danielle Davenport and son Brandon Parker Davenport.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, ICU nurses and staff who provided the incredible care for David over the past two months at St Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.

Friends and Family are kindly invited to attend the services held at Sts. Simon And Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glenloch Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77381 on Friday, July 30, 2021 with visitation at 9:15 a.m. followed by Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a reception to follow at Domec Hall.
