GHBA launches 2nd LEGO Future Home Builder competition
The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) supports residential home building throughout the greater Houston area. In 2020, as the world was shutting down due to COVID-19, GHBA reached out to the general public to engage all ages in a creative competition that inspired unique ideas for residential construction. The LEGO Future Home Builder Competition was launched in July 2020 for ages 3 and up, with the adult category beginning at age 17. This year’s competition has begun with calls for new home designs built with LEGOs (no kits alowed) that are limited only by the builder’s imagination. The deadline to submit photos of these homes is July 31. Judging will be completed by the second week in August.
“The LEGO Future Home Builder Competition has been a fun way to introduce children and adults to the residential home building industry,” said Aimee Bertrand, GHBA CEO. “If the entries we have received so far are any indication of where home building is headed, the future of residential construction will launch new trends in creativity and efficiency.”
Competitors are categorized and judged within their age groups by GHBA home building “experts” that include GHBA board members and competition sponsors.
The young Future Home Builders and the adult competitors submit up to five photos of their home with or without the builder in the photo via the GHBA website www.ghba.org/lego along with a written description of what they’ve created and what inspired the design. The homes are shared on GHBA social media platforms and in the GHBA weekly e-newsletter that goes to the more than 1,500-member-base. All competitors receive an official GHBA Master Future Home Builder certificate. For more information about GHBA and the Future Home Builder competition visit www.ghba.org or call
