Mond reportedly positive for virus

-

Three Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks were forced to quarantine due to the league’s COVID-19 protocols.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was deemed a high-risk close contact to an infected player, according to a league source, and that player is reportedly fellow quarterback Kellen Mond from Texas A&M. Backup Nate Stanley has also been quarantined, according to NFL Media.

Mond is vaccinated, according to two league sources, and if his positive case is asymptomatic, he can return as quickly as 48 hours with two negative tests taken a day apart. Because Cousins is isolated as a close contact, that means he is unvaccinated and subject to a five-day quarantine. Cousins can return Thursday at the earliest.

Hundley joins Colts’ QB mix

The Indianapolis Colts signed veteran quarterback Brett Hundley on Saturday, one day after the team said projected starter Carson Wentz would be out indefinitely with an injured foot.

Hundley has played 18 games and started nine in his six-year career, completing 199 of 337 passes for 1,902 yards with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The only other active quarterbacks are Sam Ehlinger, a sixth-round pick out of the Texas in April, and Jalen Morton, who played at Prairie View A&M before being cut in camp last season by Green Bay.

Chubb to receive 3-year extension

Browns running back Nick Chubb has agreed to a three-year, $36.6 million contract extension with the team, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press.

Chubb, who has developed into one of the NFL’s best backs in three years, is guaranteed $20 million.

Ravens, Houston agree on contract

Free-agent edge rusher Justin Houston has agreed to a one-year deal with the Ravens worth up to $4 million,

Houston, 32, was considered one of the top pass rushers still on the market, with four straight seasons of at least nine sacks. Last year, the four-time Pro Bowl selection had eight sacks and two safeties in 16 games with the Colts.

Scherff, Sharpe placed in protocol

All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff and fellow offensive lineman David Sharpe are going into virus protocol, making them the fifth and sixth Washington Football Team players on the COVID-19 reserve list.
