Chesmar Homes presents check to GHBA, charities

-

When it comes to Chesmar Homes’ philanthropic values, a global pandemic did not stop them from their commitment to the community by giving back through the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Benefit Homes Project, a 41-year-old charity fundraiser.

For the project, Chesmar built its Hillcrest plan with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members on a lot donated by Land Tejas in

Lago Mar. Each year, two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project that are sold at market value and the majority of the proceeds go to HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.

The Hillcrest sold shortly after construction began. The sale raised $300,000 that was presented to the GHBA and the two charities at a recent Chesmar sales meeting in their southern division office. With this sale, the Benefit Homes Project has raised nearly $13 million.

“Today’s presentation check of $300,000 is a huge contribution by Chesmar,” said Patrick Mayhan, chairman of the Benefit Homes Project. “This was a difficult year for charities in their fundraising efforts, and a real challenge for home builders with high material prices and labor shortages impacting their businesses. We can’t thank them enough.”

HomeAid Houston is a 501(c)(3) charity of the GHBA that builds transitional shelters for their non-profit homeless care agency partners. Operation Finally Home builds new homes for wounded veterans returning from active duty.

“The GHBA is grateful for the commitment by Chesmar and their incredible vendors, trades and suppliers for making this sale happen during a difficult year,” added Keith Luechtefeld, board president of the GHBA. “Chesmar’s presence within the community is solid, as they have built not only beautiful homes, but a reputation for their generosity.”

Lago Mar is a 2,033-acre Land Tejas masterplanned community that features a 3,000-squarefoot clubhouse complete with an expansive workout room, a catering kitchen, business center, restroom facilities and a uniquely equipped playground for the kids.

This is the 18th lot donated by Land Tejas to the Benefit Homes Project, a contribution totaling over $1,150,000.
