Paul Joseph Carty, Sr. passed into eternal life with Christ on August 4th, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 3, 1934 in Worcester, MA to John and Helena Carty, Paul attended St. John’s School in Worcester then College of the Holy Cross before entering the Society of Jesus in 1957. As a Jesuit, Paul attended Boston College and worked throughout

New England, including stops at Boston College High School, St. George’s College in Kingston, Jamaica, and Eastern Point Retreat House in Gloucester, MA.

In 1977, and despite his love for the Jesuits, Paul relocated to court and eventually marry his wife of 43 years, Anne Storey Carty. Paul and Anne married in 1978 and relocated to Houston, TX, where he worked as a family and marriage therapist (LPC) for 30 years. In retirement, Paul enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchild­ren on Cape Cod and continued to be strong in his faith, serving as a Spiritual Director for faculty at Strake Jesuit and attending retreats at Eastern Point.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helena Carty; stepmother Margaret Carty; brothers, Richard and Francis Carty. Paul is survived by his wife, Anne Storey Carty; his brother John Carty, SJ of Cairo, Egypt and his sister Margaret Dilworth of Bloomfield Hills, MI; his daughter Nelle Carty Dalton and her husband Adam of Surrey, England; his son Paul Carty Jr. and wife Jessica of Milton, MA; his four grandchild­ren Jabez and Quinlan Dalton and Beauregard and Avery Carty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday August 7 at the Chapel of St. Ignatius at Strake Jesuit. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Strake Jesuit College Preparator­y or the Eastern Point Retreat House in Gloucester.
