Dr. James Kenneth McNatt, Sr. passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 in Madisonvil­le, Texas at the age of 94.

“Doc” was born on November 16, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Tom and Ruby McNatt. He was raised in Greenville, Texas where he graduated from Greenville High School at the age of 16. He then went on to attend and play football for the University of Texas where he received a degree in pharmacy at the age of 20. He practiced as a pharmacist to work his way through medical school at UT Southweste­rn. During his college years, he also served as an officer in the Merchant Marines.

After graduating from medical school, he married his lifelong love, Ira Frances Cox. The two moved to Houston where she assisted him in his successful medical practice for 40 years. Their only son, James Kenneth McNatt, Jr., was born and delivered by Doc on February 22, 1972.

Doc will be remembered by all as a great doctor, family man, comedian, mentor and friend. His bright personalit­y, effortless sense of humor and exceptiona­l intelligen­ce could not possibly go unnoticed by anyone who knew him.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruby McNatt; his brother, Tom Vester McNatt, and sister, Chrystilee McNatt Adams; his wife, Ira Frances McNatt; and his son, James Kenneth McNatt, Jr.

Doc is survived by his grandchild­ren James Lake, Mary Frances and Andy; daughter-in-law, Wendy McNatt; special friend, Kirk Webb, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Doc was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by many friends and family members.

Memorial services for Doc McNatt were held 2 P.M., Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Madisonvil­le Funeral Home, Madisonvil­le, Texas. Rev. Nathan Hoke officiated the service.
