Best not to ignore phones’ updates

They hold fixes for bugs, Android operating system improvements

- helpline@chron.com

Q: On a couple of occasions, I have received notice on my phone of a wireless update. There has been no indication of the source, and I am leery of clicking to update. What should I do?

A: A wireless update is usually an operating system update for your phone.

Various cellphone providers that resell Android devices will push out updates when they become available, and this is done wirelessly over your data connection.

It is generally a good idea to accept these updates, as they contain bug fixes and feature updates to the Android operating system.

Q: Is there a printer that prints color exactly as shown on my monitor? I do original artworks more as a hobby but would like consistency in what my monitor shows and what the printer prints.

A: Computer monitors are not going to be consistent in how they display colors, or even with things such as brightness and contrast. The problem is that the printer has no real way of knowing how your monitor has be configured.

You have to calibrate your monitor so what you are looking at on the screen will look the same when it is printed.

In Windows, click on Search and type Calibrate Display Color and hit Enter. This will bring up the calibration tool and allow you to change the settings on your monitor.

On a Mac, open System Preferences and click Displays, then click Color and then click Calibrate.

These basic tools work well, but if you want to take it to the next level you should look at tools such as Datacolor SpyderX Pro or X-Rite i1Display Studio.
