Savvy Yankees win fifth straight

NEW YORK — D.J. LeMahieu and Kyle Higashioka made savvy baserunnin­g moves, turning a double-play grounder into the go-ahead run, and the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 on Saturday for their fifth straight victory.

Aaron Judge and Rougned Odor homered as the Yankees capitalize­d on a three-base error by right fielder Mitch Haniger to win for the 10th time in 12 games.

New York erased a 4-1 deficit by scoring four times in the sixth inning. The Yankees have won the first three in a four-game series against Seattle. The Mariners fell to

3-6 on a 10-game trip and each loss has been decided by no more than two runs.

BLUE JAYS, RED SOX SPLIT: Marcus Semien hit a walk-off home run to begin the seventh inning as host Toronto edged 1-0 Boston in the opening game of a doublehead­er. In the second game, Jonathan Arauz singled home the tiebreakin­g run in the eighth inning as Boston tipped Toronto 2-1 to earn a split.

GIANTS 9, BREWERS 6 (11): Brandon Belt hit his second homer of the night during a four-run outburst in the 11th inning as visiting San Francisco triumphed in a wild game between division leaders.

PHILLIES 5, METS 3: Brad Miller homered twice as first-place Philadelph­ia withstood a ninth-inning rally for its seventh straight victory, defeating visiting New York. Odubel Herrera hit a three-run homer and doubled.

WHITE SOX 4, CUBS 0: Carlos Rodon struck out 11, Cesar Hernandez and Jose Abreu hit back-to-back home runs, and the White Sox won at Wrigley Field.

ATHLETICS 12, RANGERS 3: Matt Olson matched his career high with four hits, including a two-run double as part of Oakland’s seven-run third inning, helping hand visiting Texas its 13th consecutiv­e road loss.

NATIONALS 3, BRAVES 2: Riley Adams’ two-run homer in the ninth gave visiting Washington the lead during a rally behind three runs off closer Will Smith.

RAYS 12, ORIOLES 3: Brandon Lowe hit a grand slam, Nelson Cruz homered for the second straight game, and Tampa Bay won at Baltimore.

REDS 11, PIRATES 3: Jesse Winker went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and tied a career high with six RBIs in Cincinnati’s victory at home.

CARDINALS 5, ROYALS 2: Nolan Arenado homered, pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter had a tiebreakin­g double, and St. Louis handled visiting Kansas City.

TIGERS 2, INDIANS 1: Tyler Alexander tossed a season-high 51⁄3 scoreless innings as Detroit won on the road.

ROCKIES 7, MARLINS 4: Austin Gomber struck out a career-high nine, leading Colorado to a rout at home.

PADRES 6, DIAMONDBAC­KS 2: Manny Machado singled home the go-ahead run in a four-run eighth inning for host San Diego, which failed to get Yu Darvish the win after he struck out 12.

DODGERS 5, ANGELS 3: Chris Taylor broke an eighth-inning tie with a two-run double as the Dodgers snagged a home victory.
