City sets sights on winning a Guinness record

-

Hey, Kyle, have you always wanted to break a world record by standing in a city named Kyle with other Kyles?

You’ll get that chance over Labor Day weekend when, Kyle, Texas, attempts to again set a Guinness World Record for gathering the most people with the same name.

The city, about an hour northeast of San Antonio, is looking to break the world record for “gathering the most Kyles — spelled that way — in one place” at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at Kyle Lake during the annual Pie in the Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival.

The city of Kyle is named after Fergus Kyle, who donated more than 200 acres of land when the International and Great Northern Railroad built a line from Austin to San Antonio.

The city previously attempted to set the world record in 2017. However, they were bested by the 2,325 Ivans who gathered in Kupres, a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina that year.
