1938-2021

Jay Edward Abramson passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the age of 83. He was born in Houston, Texas on June 9, 1938, the youngest child of Albert Abramson and Pearl Kaplan Abramson. With two older siblings, Jay, also known as Bubba, grew up as the beloved baby brother.

He graduated from San Jacinto High School, and attended The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston. In 1992 he founded Auto Insurance Discounters along with his children. He built this company from the ground up working side by side with his family which became something he was extremely proud of. Throughout his life he was able to enjoy his passions for traveling and going to casinos, involvement in the stock market, and enjoying professional sports. He was an avid fan of the Houston Rockets, Astros and Texans. After retirement he spent some of his time volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital. Holidays and sporting events were always his favorite time because that was when the entire family would get together.

Jay never met someone he couldn’t have a conversation with and he could fire off questions before he ever got an answer. Anyone who knew or met him would tell you that he was known for his undeniable sense of humor.

Jay was preceded in death by the aforementioned parents, Albert and Pearl Kaplan Abramson, his brother,

Morrie Abramson, sister, Renee Abramson Spolane and brother in law Micky Spolane. He is survived by his children, Marc and Nancy Abramson, Kathy and Joe Landwerlin, Amy and Mike Gray and Alyssa Abramson; his seven grandchildren, Alex, Erin , Brendan, Haley, Joshua, Chase and Presley and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. A very special thank you to the caregivers from Pin Oak and Silverado Hospice. The family especially wants to thank them for their warmth and compassion.

A graveside service will be officiated By Rabbi Roy Walter at 12:30 in the afternoon on the 15th of August at Emanu El Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jay’s memory may be made to Jewish Family Services, 4131 S Braeswood Blvd, Houston, TX 77025.
